The issue appears when the client cannot connect with the Blizzard gaming service. Several Call of Duty and Overwatch players have reported that connection loss issues with Battle.net is a common occurrence.
It causes serious frustration as the issues escalate with time. Imagine being completely involved in a game; suddenly, the server disconnected error pops up. It is not a pleasant experience.
So, what can you do to resolve the issue? Why does it occur? These are some questions that we are going to answer before the end of this post. Keep on reading to identify why the connection to the Blizzard game server keeps disconnecting and methods that can help you fix the issues once and for all!
Usually, the internet connection is blamed for the server disconnection issues on a PC. However, when third-party clients and gaming services are involved, several common reasons cause the issue. Call of Duty is the most common game that faces connection loss due to Blizzard game server issues.
If you are also using the Battle.net client and facing the “The server disconnected error: connection to the Blizzard game server has been lost, please try again” error on your PC, it may be due to the following reasons –
The problems listed above are the most common issues. However, there can be other uncommon scenarios as well. For instance, you may be facing an issue due to game file errors or trying to connect with a foreign server using a VPN. (Internet Disconnects After Connecting to VPN – 5 Things You Can Do!)
In all the cases, one common thing is the hindrance that a user experiences while playing the game. To ensure that you do not face the same, we have curated a bunch of fixes that will help you out.
Before we begin with the methods to fix the issue, it is important to address the preliminary steps that you should take to ensure that no basic issue is causing the error. Basic issues such as network connectivity, internet errors, etc.
Here are the things you should try to fix the connection loss error –
After trying these fixes, you should be able to get the server back and, without any issues, continue playing your game. These are basic checks that will help you get rid of the error. However, if these do not work, try the following fixes.
In case the server keeps disconnecting, there are chances that the PC’s firewall is not allowing the application to access the internet properly. The best solution is to allow the application through Windows Firewall. Here are the steps that may help you do the same –
Step 1 – Press Win+R to open the Run search. Use the command Firewall.cpl and hit enter.
Step 2 – After opening the Firewall menu, check the left pane to find Allow an app or feature through the Windows Defender Firewall option. Click on it to open more options.
Step 4 – After clicking on Change settings, the list becomes available to edit. You can now scroll to find the Battle.net or the Call of Duty process in the list. If you cannot find the error-causing app in the list, click the Allow another app… button, which is now available to open.
Step 5 – The allow another app button will open the select app window. From there, you can click on browse, which will open the explorer for you to select the .exe file for the process.
Simply browse through folders and select the app you want to allow. In this case, it is either the game that cannot connect to the Blizzard game server or the Battle.net client.
Step 6 – Once you have selected the file, click the Add button in the Add an app window, and it will appear in the list.
After successfully adding the app to the list, exit the settings and restart your PC. Launch the game and check if it is working fine now. If this was the issue, it should not show the connection to the game server lost error message. However, it still appears, do not worry, as we have other fixes as well.
There is a chance that the issue related to the server connection is caused by the network data that your PC has stored after using the connection several times. Giving it a quick reset will help you out.
Step 1 – Go to the start menu and search for CMD. Run the Command Prompt as Administrator to open it.
Step 2 – Use the following command one after the other to get rid of the issue –
(Press enter after each command)
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
Step 3 – Try launching the game again, and you should be good!
This network reset makes your connection completely fresh, so if that was causing the issue, it will be resolved instantly!
If the network connection shows signs of error, but the bandwidth and the connection data are OK, it may be due to your PC’s ability to connect and use that connection. The drivers on your PC are responsible for a lot of self-explanatory processes. For instance, supporting the network to connect is the job of the Network Adapter Driver, ensuring visual clarity is the job of your GPU driver, and so on.
The thing to understand here is that these drivers require regular updates. Without these updates, these drivers are no good and cause issues. It is important to know how to update the drivers on Windows. But if you do not know it yet, do not worry; we have just the correct application.
If you are struggling with these errors due to outdated drivers, try Advanced Driver Updater. It is the easiest way to update the drivers. It only takes a few minutes to finish the three-step process –
Step 1 – Download and install the application on your PC.
Step 2 – Run a scan using the application to identify the outdated drivers on your PC.
Step 3 – Once listed, click Update All, and your job is done!
Now, the tool will find, fetch, and install suitable updates without you having to do anything. The PC restarts automatically after the updates are installed, and you are good to go. After the C restarts, try launching the game that had a connection to the Blizzard game server lost issue, and you will see that it is now resolved.
Other than these fixes, also ensure you disconnect the VPN if you use one. Try updating the game, as compatibility issues sometimes also take over. Update your PC for the latest OS, as it does contribute to supporting the PC.
All of that should help you out. Feel free to ask for assistance in the comments section if you get stuck at any point. That will be all for this post; thanks for reading. Good luck!
