Lenovo Function Keys Not Working – Quick Fixes

Many Lenovo users have shared that function keys on their PC have stopped working. The problem is legit, as with Fn keys on your computer, there are a lot of basic and advanced shortcuts you may need help accessing.

The issue is not limited to some laptops or desktops but is spread across the spectrum of Lenovo devices. If you are also experiencing Lenovo fn keys not working correctly on your PC, you have reached just the right post.

In this post, let us identify the core reasons behind the problem and then look at some of the fixes that may help you resolve it quickly. If you are worried about needing a replacement for your keyboard, relax; the Lenovo function keys malfunctioning is not a severe issue and can be fixed.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

Why Are Function Keys Not Working on My Lenovo PC?

Multiple factors may have contributed to the issue with function keys. Sometimes the error is as simple as locked keys and as complicated as the drivers not functioning properly. In both cases, the Fn keys will not work.

Some of the common issues that cause the error are –

  1. Outdated Keyboard Drivers
  2. Fn Keys Already In Use
  3. Locked Function Keys
  4. Remapped Via Lenovo Keyboard Manager

All these issues are genuine and can easily take over your Lenovo keyboard. However, the good news is that they are all easily fixable. Check out the next section to find fixes that work and may help you get over the function keys not working error on your PC.

5 Fixes to Help You Resolve Issues With Fn Keys on Your PC

Fix 1 – Remove Remapping of Fn Keys

Step 1 – Press Windows + R to Open the Run Search
Step 2 – Use the command “Control” to open the Control Panel.

Step 3 – Change the view to large or small icons from the category in the Control Panel.
Step 4 – There, you may find Lenovo Keyboard Manager.
Step 5 – Check whether the fn keys are shown to be remapped with something. Remove it from there right away!

Fix #2 – Update Keyboard Drivers

Now, there are two ways you can approach the driver update process. Both of them are effective. However, one is a longer process, while the other may be helpful in the long run. Check them out below.

Approach 1 – Traditional method –

Step 1 – Press Windows + R to open the Run Search
Step 2 – Use the Command devmgmt. msc to open the Device Manager

Step 3 – In the Device Manager, look for the keyboard drivers.

Step 4 – Right-click the keyboard driver and find the update driver option.
Step 5 – Follow the Windows Driver Update Utility steps to finish the process.

Approach 2 – Automated method (recommended) –

Step 1 – Download Advanced Driver Updater from the link below

Step 2 – Click on Start Scan Now

Step 3 – Let the scan for outdated drivers run and find all the faulty drivers.
Step 4 – Once the results are available, click on Update all.

Both approaches are available to you. However, we recommend using the Advanced Driver updater, which is more convenient and helpful in the long run.

  • Fn Sticky Key – Disabled
  • F1-F12 as Primary Function – Enabled

Make the above changes, and you are good to go.

Besides these fixes, you can always check if the Fn keys are locked and refer to the device user manual to identify how to unlock them.

Fix #4 – Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter (Windows 10)

Step 1 – Press Windows + I to Open Settings.
Step 2 – In Settings, navigate to Update & Security options.

Function Keys Will Not Malfunction Anymore!

Use these fixes to avoid issues with your Lenovo PC’s Fn keys. Keys and other device components are fragile enough to stop working, even with a slight hindrance in the way they work. Ensure these keys are clean and no hardware issue stops them from working.

Once these issues are resolved, no eros will stop function keys from working correctly on your device. Needless to say, the fixes shared above are enough to help you bring your keyboard back to life.

Let us know in the comments below if you have any queries related to any other issue with Lenovo devices. Ensure you update the drivers with Advanced Driver Updater, as that is the best way to eliminate unnecessary issues.

That brings us to the end of this post. Hope you find the shared fixes helpful. Thanks for reading. Good Luck!
