How to Recover Deleted Files

Unintentionally deleting important files while cleaning a PC or optimizing your storage devices is a common human mistake. There’s no denying that while removing files in bulk, you often delete junk and important files collectively. You later realize a crucial document or file is missing from the pile. In such cases, your only option is to look for ways to recover deleted files.

Though recovering deleted files was impossible a few years ago, today, you can quickly restore deleted files. All thanks to recovery tools like Advanced Disk Recovery.  This blog will answer if you are wondering how to use it and recover accidentally deleted files.

Forget about everything you know about recovering deleted files on your PC as, after this blog, all your misconceptions will be cleared. Without further ado, let’s begin!

Workable Ways to Recover Deleted Files – Windows 11/10/8/7

You should first try to figure out whether you have permanently deleted the file or misplaced it. There are times when moving a file to a new location and cannot remember, considering it to be deleted. To ensure this is not the case, you should try the following things:

1. Look for the files in the Recycle Bin

Simply using the Delete option or pressing the Delete key does not mean your files are permanently removed. Every Windows PC has a dedicated Recycle Bin where files are moved after removal. It is later when you empty the Recycle Bin, and the files are permanently deleted.

So, if you have pressed the Delete key unknowingly or removed an important file along with a junk folder, go ahead and check the Recycle Bin. If the file/folder is there, restore it and back it to the source folder.

2. Quickly Run a Search for the File in Explorer

In case of a missing file, this technique also helps. All you have to do is open File Explorer, navigate to My PC, and use the search box to look for the missing file. The Explorer will fetch all the files in that name, and you get the missing file.

If you find the file, simply right-click on it and click on Open Location to understand where the file lies. Copy the file and paste it where you want. You are good to go!

If you have permanently deleted the file, you should try the following ways to recover Shift-deleted files on your PC.

Recover Deleted Files By Restoring the Previous Version

Windows, being one of the top operating systems, is designed so that you always have the option to undo things done unintentionally. You can find a restore previous version option for the files you have on your computer. It uses the backup and restores the selected file/folder to the last backed-up version.

If you have deleted the file from a dedicated folder, you still have the option to roll back that folder to its previous version, and you will find your file there. Here’s how it works.

  • Go to the folder in which the file was saved. Do not open it.
  • Select the folder and right-click > to access the folder options.

  • You will find a restore to the previous version in the folder options menu.
  • Click on it and then enter the folder to find the file.

Please remember that the technique might not work on your PC if the restore to the previous version option is disabled. Also, if you deleted a file a few days back and your PC hasn’t created another backup, the previous version might not have the file you want. Moreover, the technique does not come in handy when recovering deleted files on an external device.

Recover Deleted Files Using Advanced Disk Recovery

With the help of the above steps, you can recover deleted files. However, recovering it with a third-party application seems possible if you have emptied the Recycle Bin or permanently deleted a file.

Fortunately, several applications are available to assist you with deleted file recovery. You can use them and get back the files. People might have searched for ways to recover deleted files from SD cards and other external files. Well, this software helps in getting the job done.

The Advanced Disk Recovery tool is a powerful tool that helps recover deleted files from the PC and other sources. More on that later. Let us quickly look at how you can recover deleted files from your computer using the tool.

  • Click the button below to download and install the Advanced Disk Recovery tool for Windows.

  • Launch Advanced Disk Recovery and select the storage device > and partition name to scan and recover shift deleted files.

  • Select the scan mode. We suggest using Deep Scan.

  • Wait until Advanced Disk Recovery completes scanning the selected storage device.

  • Choose the files you want to restore and hit the Recover button.

  • To avoid overwriting files, change the recovery location and wait for the data recovery process to finish.

The tool is competent and can assist you in recovering all sorts of documents, files, videos, audio, etc. You can now even recover PSD files on your computer using the Advanced Disk Recovery tool, which gives you an edge over other tools.

Recover Deleted Files Using Command Prompt

The command prompt can help if you have deleted a file you didn’t want to. Sure, it requires a certain level of expertise to work with it. Therefore, you can use Advanced Disk Recovery if you don’t know how to use the commands.

However, you can retrieve deleted files if you are well versed with the Command Prompt. Remember, you cannot restore the file as it was. However, you can try it, as it can do the trick. Here’s what you need to do –

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator to use it at full capacity.

  • Once opened, use the command –

chkdsk C: /f

  • With this command, the scan will initiate and will search for files on your specified device that were recently deleted and can be retrieved.
  • The files checked will be stored in an external drive.

The downside to this is the extra step it adds and the format of recovered files. It will be CHK, meaning you will have to convert it into the desired ones later.

Restoring Deleted Files on PC

As you can see, recovering deleted files is possible if done right. The easiest way to do this is the Advanced Disk Recovery tool. It is readily available online and more easy to use. You can finish recovering your files in just a few clicks; the best part is that it allows you to recover all types of files.

With that, we have reached the end of this blog. I hope you find the shared helpful information. Good Luck!
