Starfield is an excellent game that features stunning universe images scattered throughout the galaxy. Because of this, some players feel the need to adjust brightness settings to match the atmosphere and mood of different locations. However, some players face challenges when finding the settings. In this post, we will give step-by-step instructions on adjusting brightness in Starfield.
As of now, Starfield does not include any brightness adjustment settings. In my view, this seems quite unusual, especially considering the extensive testing done to ensure the quality of the game. Additionally, no options for adjusting settings such as “Contrast” or “Gamma” are available.
Luckily, there are options to adjust certain aspects of lighting and contrast in Starfield. These options are limited to Shadow Quality, Indirect Lighting, Volumetric Lighting, and Reflections found within the Display settings. These may not fully meet the needs of players with visual impairments who rely on brightness adjustments to optimize their gameplay experience, but they can be helpful.
Fortunately, alternative methods are available to adjust the brightness for the game without relying on Starfield’s internal settings. The specific methods will vary depending on your setup, so you may need to do some personal customization. However, the main approaches typically focus on either PC or Xbox platforms. Below, I’ve outlined steps for both of these platforms.
If you’re familiar with NVIDIA filters, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a similar option available for Starfield (and any other game) through NVIDIA’s software. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can easily adjust brightness and contrast by following these steps:
An alternative method will be available for those using a different graphics card brand to achieve similar adjustments.
Note : If you do not see the Display settings option in your NVIDIA Control Panel, I suggest updating your drivers.
There are three ways to update graphics drivers on a Windows PC: OEM Website, Device Manager, and Advanced Driver Updater. We have discussed all of these options here.
OEM Website | Device Manager | Advanced Driver Updater | |
Ease Of Use | Very Hard | Hard | Easy |
Technical Knowledge required | Complete Knowledge of your Hardware | Complete Knowledge of Using PC | Basic Knowledge of using the PC |
Driver Limitations | Only drivers related to a specific hardware manufacturer | Only drivers that are approved by the Microsoft team | All PC drivers are available on the Internet. |
Time and Effort Consumption | Yes | Yes | No |
Cost | Free | Free | Free to use, but the premium version costs $29.95 |
Each hardware manufacturer operates a website hosting the most up-to-date product drivers. It’s crucial to determine the brand and model of your graphics card, find the appropriate driver version, and then download and install it on your computer. Below are links to the websites of the most popular graphics card manufacturers.
The Device Manager is a native Windows tool that facilitates driver updates by connecting to Microsoft servers, checking for available updates, and installing them. Below are the outlined steps:
Step 1: Hit Win + R to launch the RUN Box.
Step 2: Enter “Devmgmt.msc” and hit OK.
Step 3: Click on Display Adapters to display the graphics card on your computer.
Step 4: Right-click on your card and select Update Driver.
Step 5: In the next box, choose “Search Automatically for drivers” and follow the online instructions.
Advanced Driver Updater is a Fantastic application that scans your PC to detect missing, corrupted, and outdated drivers and then updates them with the latest and compatible versions. Here are the steps to use this application:
Step 1: Download and Install this app by clicking the Download button.
Step 2: Launch the app and click the Start Scan Now button.
Step 3: Locate your graphics card in the list of driver anomalies and click the Update link.
Step 5: Reboot your computer after the process completes.
Adjusting the brightness of Starfield on Xbox is a more complex customization process than on PC. One approach is first to adjust the brightness of your TV directly using your remote control, if applicable. Alternatively, you can adjust the brightness on the Xbox itself by following these steps:
Bethesda Game Studios, the makers of the Starfield game, have announced they will add brightness settings in their upcoming updates. Until that is done, use the above steps to change the brightness and modify the settings to enhance your gaming experience.
