[Solved] – GoPro Is Not Showing Up On PC

Action cameras have become the go-to devices for content creators and vloggers. When we talk about action cameras, the first name that comes to mind is GoPro. These small but powerful cameras are rugged and created to withstand all sorts of conditions and provide high-quality footage. You might have seen moto-vloggers, professional adventure sports players, etc, using these cameras. The best part is that these cameras can be mounted on helmets and any surface to record, making them the best for any situation.

While GoPro cameras know how to do the job on the field, the PC often struggles to recognize it. This makes the process difficult for the users, as the PC cannot identify the device. There can be several reasons your PC cannot detect the connected GoPro device.

Wondering what to do if GoPro is not showing up on PC? Let’s find out!

Why is GoPro Not Detected on PC

There can be several reasons your GoPro is not recognized by the PC. Usually, when you connect your camera, it is for data transfers. This means the PC treats it as a storage device that it can use to transfer data to and from. You may have observed that sometimes, a PC is unable to detect connected pen drives and storage devices. The situation can be somewhat similar here.

Some of the most commonly known reasons why your GoPro is not showing up on your PC are –

  • Connectivity Errors
  • Hardware Issues

Working Ways to Fix GoPro Not Detected Issue on PC

Before starting with all the fixes below, ensure that you have updated your PC to the latest OS update and restarted your device to remove any glitches that may have occurred temporarily. Also, ensure that you have restarted the GoPro, as the error may also lie in the device.

Fix 1 – Ensure that the Connection Between GoPro and PC is Solid

It is crucial to identify that the connection between your GoPro and PC is proper. While connecting your camera to the PC for transferring data, make sure that the following things are checked and found OK –

  1. Check that the cable you are using is original and supports the generation of GoPro you are using.
  2. Ensure that the cable is not loose and that there are no cuts and tears on it, as it may affect the connection.
  3. Check the Port and ensure that it is intact. A USB port has pins that are often destroyed while connecting multiple devices.
  4. Check for other common errors such as dust, loose connections, etc.
  5. If the error is not resolved, try swapping the cable in use. Also, to confirm the issue, you can use the same cable and camera and connect it to another PC.

With this check and resolutions, you can fix the connection issue between your PC and GoPro. In case all these checks are passed, and the PC is still unable to detect the GoPro, do not panic and move on to the next fix.

Fix 2 – Update USB Controller Drivers

When it comes to connecting external devices on a PC, drivers play a key role. If you are using an older device and have all your updates turned off, chances are that the outdated USB controller drivers have caused the issue. Updating these drivers can resolve the majority of your errors.

If you know how to update the drivers manually, try the method. However, if not, we have a better way to help you! Simply follow these steps –

Step 1 – Download the Advanced Driver Updater.

Step 2 – You may find the Start Scan Now button in the downloaded application. Use it to initiate a scan for outdated drivers that exist on your PC.

Step 3 – After the scan results, click on Update All to get things resolved.

This way, you can easily update the USB controller drivers and other outdated drivers that may be causing the error. Keep in mind that when you connect a GoPro, there are drivers that it installs. This means if those drivers are outdated, too, the device won’t work. With Advanced Driver Updater, you get rid of all the outdated drivers in just a few clicks. Download today!

Fix 3 – Try Swapping the SD Card to Check if it is Detected

After updating the device and USB controller drivers, we recommend you restart your PC and try connecting the device again. However, if it is still undetected, the issue might not be with the device but with its SD card. You can easily check if that is the case by swapping the current SD card with a new one and connecting the same GoPro with the PC.

If the new SD card is detected, your existing SD card may be corrupted. In that scenario, we advise you to use a dedicated SD card reader and connect it to your PC for recovery.

PRO TIP – If you are on Windows 10, use the Hardware Troubleshooter on your PC. Simply –

Step 1 – Open the Run search using the Win+R command on the keyboard.
Step 2 – In the Run search, use the command msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic.

Step 3 – Launch the troubleshooter and follow the instructions to complete the process.

If none of the above fixes work for you, try contacting the  GoPro support team with your problem, as it may be a specific hardware issue you may be facing. After eliminating the possible errors around your PC and the device, it is better to let the professionals work on it.

Hope these fixes finally resolve the issue and help you out. Thanks for reading, good luck!
