I have faced this screen-sharing issue for the past two weeks when using Google Meet. To fix it, I tried restarting the browser and PC, updating the browser and Windows, and clearing the browser cache and cookies, but nothing worked. If anyone has a solution to my problem, I would be thankful to you. 

Screen sharing has become an important part of online meetings and troubleshooting. This is why when Google Meet screen sharing stops working, it is frustrating. Well, worry not. This post will share 100% workable solutions to troubleshoot the issue, whether caused by connection or permission errors.

• Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an incognito tab.
• Open Google Meet > join the meeting and try to share the screen.
• Create a new Browser Profile by clicking the Profile icon/photo in the top right corner and selecting Add. Choose “Continue without an account,” then open Google Meet, sign in, and commence your meeting.
• If this doesn’t help try using an alternate browser, Firefox, Brave, or Opera, to join Google Meet and share your screen.

Why Does Google Meet Freeze When I Share the Screen

There are multiple reasons why users face issues when sharing Google meet screens. Here, we list the most common ones:

• Low System Resources – This could happen if many tabs are opened or processes run in the background.
• Incompatible Hardware – Low RAM, incompatible graphics cards, etc, fall under this issue.
• Outdated browser—Windows and apps receive regular updates, and the same is true with web browsers. If your browser is outdated, you might face issues with Google Meet, Zoom, and other services.
• Missing or Corrupt Drivers—Corrupt or missing driver files will prevent you from sharing the screen when using Google Meet.
• Low Bandwidth. If you have insufficient bandwidth or network connection issues, you cannot share your screen.
• Issue with Settings. You need to modify certain settings to share your screen using Google Meet.
• Firewall restrictions – Antivirus or firewall might be stopping you from accessing Google Meet and sharing screen.

How To Fix Google Meet Present Screen Is Not Working

Method 1: Check Your PC Configuration (for first-timers only)

This step is for users trying to use Google Meet for the first time. You can jump to the next step if you have used Google Meet on your PC before. Method 2: Reboot the Browser and Rejoin the Meeting

The first step to fixing the “Google Meet present screen is not working” error is to exit your browser immediately. Use the invitation link to launch the browser and rejoin the meeting. If you have time, we suggest restarting the computer once and then joining the meeting. 

Restarting helps clear the cache and fix temporary glitches that occur suddenly without a plausible cause or explanation. Hence, we recommend rebooting apps and devices for any issue that occurs out of the blue.

Method 3: Check Your Internet Connection

Sharing your screen with audio requires an excellent internet connection. Personally speaking, I haven’t been able to connect to Google Meet with my mobile data connection. You need a good Wi-Fi connection to ensure you do not face issues like Google Meet screen share audio not working. Here is what you can do:

• Ensure your PC is connected to the internet.
• Check the bottom right corner of the taskbar to identify how many bars are on the Wi-Fi icon (the more, the better).
• Click the Wi-Fi icon to check if you are connected to the correct network.

If you are connected to a slow network, you must change your internet connection and rejoin the meeting.

Method 4: Change Google Meet Permission To Share Screen

Not many know that Google Meet allows only the Host to share screens by default. This setting is in place to avoid confusion and chaos during meetings. If you are a participant, you must ask the Host to modify the settings to allow you/others to share their screen. Here are the steps that the Google Meet Host needs to take:

Step 1: During an active meeting, look for the Lock icon.

Step 2: Click on it and enable the toggle button labeled Let EveryOne Share their screen.

Once the host enables this permission, the participants will no longer face the Google Meet present screen, which is not working.

Method 5: One Presentator Only

Google Meet allows only one presentation to be active during a meeting. This means if another participant is presenting his/her screen, you will not be able to present your screen until the current presentation stops sharing the screen. Ensure that no one is presenting the screen when you are trying to share your screen using Google Meet.

Method 6: Update Browser

An Outdated browser may not function properly and can develop any sort of glitches. Hence, we recommend that you update your browser by following these steps:

Step 1: Launch The Chrome browser and click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
Step 2: Choose Settings, and a new tab will open.

Step 3: Click on About Chrome in the left panel. The Chrome browser will start automatically looking for updates.

Method 7: Delete Cache & Cookies

All browsers are designed to accumulate cache and cookies created by websites to ensure users can enjoy faster surfing and browsing. However, over time, these temporary files increase in size and get corrupted, causing mayhem with the browser, resulting in Google Meet screen share audio not working issues and other similar errors. Hence, we recommend freeing the browser memory and optimizing your browser by following these steps:

Step 1: Open Chrome Browser and press Ctrl + Shift + Del to open the Settings tab. The Settings tab has the Clear Browsing History option.
Step 2: Select the Basic tab and  Time Range as All Time.

Step 3: Check the boxes next to Browsing History, Cookies, and Cached images and files.
Step 4: Click on Clear Data and reboot your browser.

Method 8: Turn On Hardware Acceleration

The hardware acceleration, when enabled, allows CPU-dependent tasks to be moved to the GPU, ensuring that the processing issues are resolved when more resources are required. For some reason, Google Chrome disables Hardware Acceleration as a default setting. This causes the Google Meet screen share not to work. Sharing screens would require more resources, and transferring this task to the Graphical Processing Unit from the Central Processing Unit would be wise. Here are the steps to enable Hardware Acceleration to fix the Google Meet screen issue.

Step 1: Open the Chrome browser.
Step 2: Click on the Hamburger menu at the upper right corner to view the drop-down menu and choose Settings.

Step 3: Next click on System in the left panel and enable the toggle button next to Use Hardware Acceleration When Available.

Method 9: Modify Screen Resolution Settings

Some experts have suggested that lowering screen resolution consumes less PC resources and allows users to share screens using Google Meet. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Press Win + I to launch Windows Settings.
Step 2:  Click on System in the left panel and then on Display in the right side of the Settings window.

Step 3: Scroll down to locate Display Resolution.

Step 4: Click on the dropdown and choose a lower resolution setting.

Method 10: Update Drivers

Drivers play an important role in the flawless functioning of your PC. Many experts have claimed that outdated, missing, or corrupt graphic card drivers are the reason Google Meet screen share does not work on Chrome/Mozilla/Firefox. We recommend updating the driver of your graphics card to fix this issue. There are three methods to update the graphic card drivers.

1. Update Via OEM Website

Users can identify the graphic card make and model number of the graphic card driver installed on their system and download the latest version from the OEM website.

2. Update Via Device Manager

The Device Manager is an inbuilt driver utility that can help you update drivers for the hardware installed on your PC by Microsoft servers. It can only update drivers to the version available on the Server. Here is what you need to do:

Step 1: Press Win + X and choose Device Manager.
Step 2: Locate Display Drivers and click on it to reveal your graphics card.
Step 3: Right-click on the graphic card and select Update Drivers.

Step 4: Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the latest drivers.
Step 5: Restart your PC.

3. Update Via Advanced Driver Updater

Advanced Driver Updater is an amazing tool that can scan your PC, identify the driver anomalies, and fix them simply and swiftly. Here are the steps to use this app:

Step 1: Download and Install Advanced Driver Updater.

Step 2: Launch the app and click on Start Scan Now button.

Step 3: After completing the scan, look for your graphic driver listed and click on the Update link beside it.

Step 4: Let the process complete and reboot your PC.

How To Share The Screen In Google Meet

The chances of you not knowing how to share screen on Google Meet are thin, yet with the number of platforms available today, like Slack, Teams, Skype, etc., one can easily get confused. Therefore, here is a quick refresher on how to screen share when using Google Meet. 

Step 1: Open the Google Meet website in any browser.
Step 2: Click on New Meetings to start a new one, or enter the code and click on Join.

Step 3: Once in the meeting, look at the bottom center for an icon like an upward-pointing arrow in a rectangle. Hover the mouse over it to see the Present Now option.

Step 4: Choose the Entire screen option and click on Share.

Viola! Your screen is now shared with all the participants of your meeting.
