How to Fix Video Controller (VGA) Driver Issue for Windows 11/10?

Video quality on any Windows PC depends majorly on the system’s video controller driver. If you have recently encountered issues with display, chances are that the drivers in question are either corrupt or outdated. The biggest giveaway of the error is present on your PC, other than errors with video quality can be seen in the Device Manager.

When you open the Device Manager, you may find a yellow exclamation mark against the video controller. It indicates that the issue lies with the driver and is the core reason behind the display errors on Windows that you might be facing.

So what should you do if you see the error? Well, there are ways to fix video controller driver issues on Windows or video controller drivers not installed in Windows 10/11 We have discussed them in this blog, so read it thoroughly.

Without any further ado, let’s begin!

Fixing Video Controller (VGA) Driver Errors on Windows – 3 Ways

The first thing you should do if you have just observed a glitch in the graphics is restart the system. This way, the error will be resolved if any of the opened applications were causing the issues. If that didn’t work, here are three ways to fix display driver errors on Windows.

Fix #1 – Update Video Controller Drivers

One of the most common problems with drivers is that they often get outdated. The core reason is that there is no dedicated driver update utility tool in the system. Sure, there is a driver updater wizard, but that opens only when manually operated.

No user pays attention to drivers unless an error and issues appear on your PC. If you have encountered problems with your video controller, outdated drivers may be a prominent error.

Here’s how you update your drivers –

Step 1 – Press Windows + R to Open the Run Search.
Step 2 – In Run Search, look up devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager.

Step 3 – After opening the Device Manager, find your Video Controller Driver under the Sound, video and game controllers category.

Step 4 – Right click and choose the Update Driver option to initiate the process.

Step 5 – Click on the first option and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.

Once you are done, you can restart the PC, and the issue should be resolved.

While the above steps are helpful, they are not efficient. You will have to keep returning now and then to fetch updates so that the issue does not reappear. The ideal solution for drivers going out of date is an automated driver updater.

Advanced Driver Updater is the best way to automatically update drivers on your PC. It automatically finds, fetches and finishes driver updates for you in no time.

Fix #2 – Re-Install the Device Using Device Manager

Sometimes the error lies in the configuration of the device. The best way to handle VGA driver errors is to uninstall them so the system can reiterate the process and return the default drivers.

How To Uninstall Programs On Windows 11 and 10

Here’s what you should do.

Step 1  – Press Windows + X to bring up the quick-access menu.
Step 2 – From the quick access menu, choose Device Manager to open.

Step 3 – Navigate to the video driver in question.
Step 4 – Right click on it and click on Uninstall device.

Step 5 – Click Yes in the prompt asking you if you want to uninstall the driver completely.

After the entire process is complete, restart the system. It will automatically install the driver, and voila! You have successfully re-installed the driver in question.

Fix #3 – Rollback Video Driver to Prior Stable Version

Besides these 2 fixes, you can also roll back the driver if updating or reinstalling it did not work. Sometimes your current driver version gets corrupted, while your PC does not support the latest one you download. In such situations, rolling back to the older version is the best option.

Here’s how you do it!

Step 1 – Go to the Device Manager and find the driver at fault.
Step 2 – Right Click on the display driver to find its properties.
Step 3 – In properties, go to the Driver tab.

Step 4 – Here, you will find the rollback driver option.
Step 5 – Follow the instructions on the screen to roll back your video controller driver.

You can also get the same done in just a few clicks using Advanced Driver Updater, provided you have a set backup on the tool. Start using it today to identify all the features and benefits.
