How To Enable Seconds in Windows System Clock

Windows 11 operating system can be customized so that users can change the default Windows Settings to suit their needs. One such feature is enabling seconds in the System Clock located in the Taskbar. Usually, this clock displays the system time in Hours: minutes format, but you need to make some tweaks if you want to see seconds. This post explains how to do that in detail and shows how to view the seconds timer on this clock. There are three different methods to enable seconds in the system clock.

Things To Consider Before Adding Seconds to System Clock

  • Enabling the second timer will consume more CPU resources.
  • The timer can be enabled directly from Settings, Windows Registry, or PowerShell.
  • You can use a third-party app (ElevenClock) for this purpose.

How To Enable/Display Seconds In System Tray Clock

Here, we explain three different methods to help enable the seconds clock on the System.

The easiest way to display seconds in the system clock is to enable settings in the Windows settings. Here is how to do that –

Method 2 – Use The Windows Registry

If you cannot view the seconds clock using the Windows Settings, we recommend making changes in the Windows Registry. Here are the steps –

1. Press Win + R to open the RUN dialog box and type “Regedit.”
2. Copy and paste the following path into the address bar on the top.

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. Locate the Registry key ShowSecondsInSystemClock in the right panel.

4. Double-click on this key and type “1” under the Valuedata field.
5. Click on the OK button and exit the Registry Editor.
6. Reboot your PC so the changes take effect.

Method 3 – Use The PowerShell Tool

The Windows PowerShell is a tool that helps users make changes to many features in the Windows operating system. To solve the system clock timing issue, you need to follow these steps –

1. Press Win + X to open the Power menu and click on Terminal (admin).
2. The Windows PowerShell will now open.
3. Copy and paste the following command in the PowerShell window.

Set-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced -Name ShowSecondsInSystemClock -Value 1 -Force

4. Press Enter and reboot your computer.

Bonus Tip: Use Advanced System Optimizer To Maintain Your PC

After enabling the seconds clock or otherwise, many users have complained of a slow PC. This usually happens when temporary and junk files get stored on your PC. Sadly, there is no automated process to remove these files, so you have to do it manually or use a tool. If you are looking for an easy way out and want to save time, we suggest using Advanced System Optimizer. It is a complete PC Optimization tool that allows for the removal of unwanted files, the optimization of disks and memory, the updating of drivers, the removal of malware, and the performance of other PC tweaking tasks. This software even helps fix invalid registry entries, remove unwanted apps, and more There are many other modules built within this app to help optimize your PC and fix major/minor issues. Download it today and optimize your PC to feel the difference.

[ Conclusion ]

We hope the above three methods have helped you view the seconds timer in your system’s clock located at the bottom right corner of your taskbar. We recommend using the Windows Settings method first, which is very simple. You can use the Windows registry or the PowerShell tool if it does not work. In some cases, users have described that they cannot view the Seconds Clock after all three methods. In this case, you may have to download and use a third-party app like ElevenClock, which is available on the Microsoft Store.

If any method does not work for you, you can also try these points that I grumbled from Reddit –

  • Use Task Scheduler
  • Use Registry Editor
  • Using Third-Party Tools like ElevenClock
