Dell Laptop Restart Loop: How to Fix It?

Is your Dell laptop stuck in a never-ending loop where it keeps restarting? There can be several reasons that may be causing the issue. Sometimes it is an outdated operating system, while other times, it is caused by a virus or malware.

Either way, the experience of your computer being stuck in a restart loop can become a nightmare. It is so frustrating that you may want to replace your device. However, that is never the solution. Fortunately, this post explains different ways to fix the Dell laptop restart loop. However, before learning the fixes, let’s find out the reasons.

Why Is My Dell Laptop Stuck on Restarting Screen?

The issues that may cause Dell laptops stuck in a restart loop situation have never been properly addressed. Multiple factors cause the issue on a regular PC. These include –

  • Faulty external devices connected to the Dell laptop
  • Outdated OS being used for a while
  • Security issues or a virus/malware attack on the laptop
  • Missing driver updates for crucial components

All these are self-explanatory and have a direct impact on the performance of your Dell laptop. Usually, it is either the missing driver updates or corrupt system files that cause the error.

However, you should never underestimate other issues as well. Luckily, all these listed problems can be fixed. How? Well, check out the list of fixes in the next section.

4 Fixes to Resolve Dell Laptop Stuck on Restart Loop

Fix 1 – Disconnect External Devices & Reset the Power

The first thing you should do is disconnect any external device connected to your Dell laptop. It may be a storage drive, a joystick, or other component.

Once you have done that and the system is still on a restart loop, press and hold the power button on your laptop for 10 seconds. This will reset its power, go out of the loop, and start the device.

Now that your PC is on and out of the restart loop, ensure it is connected to a stable power source. We recommend connecting the charger and then moving on to the next fixes to resolve the boot loop completely.

Fix 2 – Update Your Operating System

Once you are out of the loop, you should first look for OS updates on your PC. Here’s how you can update Windows –

Step 1 – Press Win+I on your keyboard to open system settings.
Step 2 – In the System settings window, click on Windows Update, available in the left panel.

click on Windows Update
Step 3 – Click on Check for Updates to fetch the latest released security as well as functional update.

Step 5 – The update may require you to restart the device. Do not worry and click on restart, as the issue was due to an outdated OS. This will resolve it.

However, if the Dell laptop gets stuck on the restart screen after you have installed the update, simply reset the power and turn the device back ON.

Fix 3 – Install Missing Driver Updates

Drivers are crucial components of any device. Without proper drivers, no device can function to its full potential. Believe it or not, multiple device drivers may be affecting the overall performance of your device.

The restart loop itself can be caused due to outdated drivers on your device. The biggest issue users face while trying to update their device drivers is that they do not know exactly which driver may be causing the issue

If only there were a way to update all the drivers at once. Well, there sure is! Instead of going to the Device Manager and manually checking for updates, you can use the Advanced Driver Updater. Here’s how it helps you update multiple drivers at once –

Step 1 – Download the application from the link below.

Step 2 – Run a scan to find outdated drivers on your PC.

Step 3 – Once the scan is over, click Update All to initiate the update process.

That’s it! Three easy steps, and you have a completely updated set of drivers available on your laptop. Eventually, these updates will restart your PC, which should help you remove the boot loop from your PC.

Fix 4 – Verify & Enable Secure Boot

Sometimes, your PC cannot boot properly due to malware or virus. Secure Boot ensures it does not bother the boot process, even if malware exists.

First, verify if your Dell laptop uses Secure Boot.

Step 1 – Press the Windows key to bring up the start menu
Step 2 – In the search open the system information.
Step 3 – Scroll down in the available information to find the status for secure boot.
