Note – When you choose to “repair the Office installation,” several background processes run in to identify and fix problems caused by corrupted or missing files, configuration settings, or registry entries. Here’s what happens in the background:

1. Checking for Corrupt or Missing Files is Performed

  • The repair tool scans and compares the files on your computer with those in the original Office package. If any missing or corrupted files are detected, they are replaced with fresh copies from the installation source.

2. Damaged Registry Entries are Replaced

  • Microsoft Office to work properly depends on different Windows registry entries. Therefore, if these entries are modified, deleted, or damaged, Office programs will cause issues. The repair process scans and restores these registry entries.

3. Verify Installed Components

  • Microsoft Office comprises various components (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). The repair tool checks for proper installation of these components; if anything is missing or misconfigured, it fixes it.

4. Repair System Configuration and Permissions

  • Incorrect system configurations or permission settings can prevent Office from working correctly. The repair process adjusts file and folder permissions, ensuring that the Office has access to its files and system resources.

5. Reapply Patches and Updates

  • When an Office update or patch is interrupted or doesn’t apply properly, instability issues in the Office programs are bound to occur. The repair process re-applies the latest patches or updates to ensure a stable version of the office runs.

6. Network and Licensing Verification

  • During repair, the Office checks for valid licensing and network configurations.

7. Reset Configuration Settings

  • Misconfigured settings within Office applications can cause issues. The repair process resets the application settings to their default values.

Hence, you are required to change your ToC to a basic style.

  2. Choose Update entire table and change ToC formatting to standard style.

Editor’s Tip: Save The File Into Multiple PDFs And Merge Them

Here is a personal suggestion that I tried. As the document size was large, I split it into smaller documents and saved a maximum of three pages as a PDF. This worked fine, and I was able to save multiple PDFs. Once the files were successfully saved using online PDF merger tools like PDF24 Creator or SmallPDF, I combined the PDF. It was time-consuming and effort-consuming, but it did solve my problem.

Save 3-5 pages of PDF at a time.

Use PDF24Creator or Smallpdf to merge PDFs and create a single document.
